Fight against “COVID-19”: Bel Air Bauxite mining in Guinea continues to support the cause

Bel Air Mining SAS, a member of the Alufer Mining Limited group, developer and producer of bauxite in the prefecture of Boffa, endures supporting local communities and local health centres as well as employees with material and technical support in prevention against the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic in its impact area.

Bel Air Mining supports fight against Covid-19

Joining hands with its medical contractor Medequip, the bauxite company Bel Air Mining provided a series of supports, in hygiene equipment, medical equipment and training to communities and local health structures in its impact area, as well as to employees and their respective families.

This support covers nearly 2,500 hand-washing stations and 13,000 bibs, distributed to local communities and employees, 500 thermo-flashes, 1,000 rapid screening tests and the training and equipment of medical staff at community health centres. In the various villages in the area, the Bel Air community team also carried out awareness-raising sessions on the symptoms of the virus and barrier measures and other preventive measures.

These distributions of materials and the technical support provided, with a total value of $55,000, are part of Bel-Air Mining's continuous commitment to contribute to the well-being of the local communities and the socio-economic development of Guinea.

On behalf of the beneficiary communities, the Prefect of Boffa, Col. Abdouhamane KÉITA, expressed his gratitude to Bel Air Mining and Medequip for their continued support. “This gesture of solidarity from Bel Air Mining goes straight to the heart of the communities here in Boffa. Since the start of the pandemic, BAM has continued to provide support at all levels to populations. We are happy to have a company like BAM concerned about the well-being of our communities. ”

The Chairman and CEO of Bel-Air Mining, Mr Kevin Mclean said: “As a corporate citizen, it is our responsibility to ensure the health and safety of our stakeholders. With medical aid, health kits and training, we are raising awareness to prevent the spread of the virus while giving people the means to do so.”

Bel Air Mining has additionally implemented strict measures in place at its various operating sites, in particular regular hand washing, surface disinfection, social distancing, temperature taking and teleworking for employees who can work at a distance. In the inclusion, an isolation zone has been set up at the company's base, with strict quarantine procedures, and an ambulance is now reserved for the transfer of staff members showing symptoms of infection at COVID- 19 to referral health facilities.
