The US imports of crude metal and alloys drop by 8% YoY in 2019

The US imports of crude metal and alloys rose 3.59% or 11,000 tonnes year-on-year to 317,000 tonnes in December 2019, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from the US Geological Survey. The US had imported 306,000 tonnes in December 2018.

Crude metal and alloys imports increased by 4.97% from November’s imports of 302,000 and 386.94% from October’s imports of 65,100 tonnes.

The US imported 3.8 million tonnes of crude metal and alloys in 2019, as compared to 4.13 million tonnes in 2018. This marked a decrease of 7.99% or 330,000 tonnes.

On the export side, In January-December, crude metal and alloys exports of these products stood at 233,000 tonnes, representing a decrease of 20.21% or 59,000 tonnes year-on-year. The US had exported 292,000 tonnes in January-December 2018.

The US exported 17,500 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in December, from 18,100 tonnes exported in December 2018. That was down 3.31% year-on-year. On a month-on-month basis, the exports reduced by 4.89% or 900 tonnes from 18,400 tonnes.
