The facility has an annual capacity to produce 165,000 metric tons of primary aluminium and recycle 100,000 metric tons of scrap/dross. TRIMET Aluminium SE has three other ASI Performance Standard-certified production sites in Germany and France.

The ASI Certification program addresses sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It defines 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, including biodiversity, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

TÜV NORD CERT GmbH, an independent third-party auditor, carried out the certification process.

Fiona Solomon, the Chief Executive Officer at ASI, commented: “We congratulate TRIMET Aluminium SE for achieving ASI Performance Standard (V2) Certification at its Essen, Germany smelting/recycling facility and foundry. By continuing to certify additional production sites to the Performance Standard, the company is demonstrating its commitment to strengthening its sustainability performance, addressing its environmental impacts, and taking a leadership role to inspire positive change within the aluminium industry.”

Sustainability in the Global Aluminium Industry

The Chairman of the Executive Board of TRIMET Aluminium SE, Philipp Schlüter, declared: “With the certification of our production sites in Essen, we are consistently pursuing our sustainability strategy. As a domestic aluminium producer, we ensure the industry is supplied with important materials. With sustainably produced products, we not only contribute to global climate protection targets but also reinforce the competitiveness of our production sites.”
