SCORE programme in Belson Steel Centre reaches milestone with 1.1 million aluminium cans

Belson Steel Centre, the Bourbonnais-based scrap recycling company, has been organising the SCORE programme, which brings schools and businesses together to foster community engagement and sustainability by encouraging local citizens to collaborate for the greater good. This year, during the yearly programme, students and people from 29 Kankakee County schools and organisations gathered approximately 1.1 million aluminium cans worth over $14,000.

The programme winners were revealed by Belson Steel Group Vice President Kevin Kennell at the Belson Steel Centre in Bourbonnais. Manteno School District won first place in a fiercely fought tournament with an astounding collection of almost 135,000 aluminium cans.

Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School came in second with 112,900 cans collected. Herscher Intermediate School and St. Anne Grade School were barely 200 cans apart for third and fourth place. Herscher Intermediate School collected 2422 lbs, or about 82,700 aluminium cans, with St. Anne Grade School coming in second with 2428 lbs, or approximately 82,900 aluminium cans.

World Recycled Aluminium Market Analysis

All participating schools and organisations will receive rewards, with cash prizes for the team with the highest points. The SCORE programme will continue next fall as Belson Steel Centre Scrap Inc. continues to set the standard for ethical recycling and community participation.
