China’s total exports of prebaked anode from January to November 2022 amounted to 1.84 million tonnes, an increase of 192,400 tonnes or 11.71 per cent Y-o-Y.

Among the export destinations, Malaysia was the largest, with an import volume of 74,000 tonnes, far exceeding the actual local demand in Malaysia. It is expected that Malaysia’s import volume will shrink slightly in December. The exports to Russia were 5,600 tonnes.

According to prebaked anode companies, China’s export decline is mainly due to weaker demand caused by production suspension of aluminium plants in Russia. In 2021, China’s prebaked anode export amounted to 1.8817 million tonnes, while the exports from January to November of this year reached 1.835 million tonnes.

Future of the Global Aluminium Castings Industry

China’s total prebaked anode exports were strong this year mainly due to the impact of overseas conflicts, such as tight supply in Europe and the UAE. China, as the world’s largest prebaked anode producer, responsibly fulfiled the overseas supply gap. In December, prebaked anode export is estimated to increase 150,000-200,000 tonnes, with the total annual export volume to exceed 2 million tonnes.
