Chichester District Council has marked a 1 million milestone in recycling aluminium coffee capsules during the first year of the council's initiative to gather used aluminium or plastic pods through a free kerbside collection portal.
The trial began in July 2021 after the Chichester District Council collaborated with Podback, a joint venture by Nestle and Jacobs Douwe Egberts. The Podback scheme has been initiated all over the UK to safely steward used aluminium coffee pods ready for recycling.
The Chichester District Council trail encompasses around 75 per cent of the residential complexes in the area. The scheme focuses on the smooth transition of aluminium coffee pods from home to the kerbside collection joints and, ultimately, to the recycling units.
Unlike other materials, aluminium can be infinitely recycled without losing the original properties of the actual non-ferrous metal. Once returned, the pod's aluminium can be restored to its former glory for utilisation in any other downstream or end-user products.
The programme focuses on making recycling much easier for the residents of Chichester District Council with the assurance of Podback kerbside collection.
After they arrived at the notable milestone of 1 million recycled coffee pods, the council became affirmative about the laid scheme, planning to review collection trips with the primary agenda of elevating the service standards and capacity.
Locals can sign up for the free coffee pod collection scheme online, wherein they would be provided with kerbside recycling bags to be filled and returned to the city council.
Both plastic and aluminium coffee pods are welcome in this sustainability drive. Coffee pods from big brands like Starbucks by Nespresso, Starbucks by Nescafé Dolce Gusto, Tassimo, Nespresso, Nescafé Dolce Gusto, L'OR, Allpress Espresso, CruKafe, Artisan Coffee Co, Café Palmieri by Jomad Coffee and Colonna Coffee are all compatible with this immensely popular Podback scheme.
The scheme is not limited to collecting only coffee pods; it also accepts tea or hot chocolate pods.
