On July 20, the Aluminium Extruders Council (AEC) attested to a U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) hearing about the economic effects of Section 232 and 301 tariffs on U.S. industries. On Thursday, July 21, the aluminium billet inventories in China dropped by 3,100 tonnes W-o-W to close at 95,400 tonnes, from 98,500 tonnes a week ago. Except for Foshan and Huzhou, all major markets saw a decrease in inventories, partially attributable to fewer exports from smelters in northwest China.

Vedanta Limited’s aluminium products and aluminium ingot prices rebounded on Saturday, July 23, following a cut on the previous day. With effect from Saturday, Vedanta’s aluminium wire rod price has increased by INR 2,750 per tonne to come in at INR 234,250-241,750 per tonne. On July 22, the price stood at INR 231,500-239,000 per tonne, after being cut by INR 2,500 per tonne from INR 234,000-241,500 per tonne.

Vedanta currently sold its aluminium wire rod price at INR 231,500-239,000 per tonne versus INR 234,250-241,750 per tonne as of July 23. Aluminium ingot price stood at INR 224,000-255,500 per tonne, seeing a cut of INR 2,750 per tonne on July 26 from INR 226,750-258,250 per tonne.

AMAG Austria Metall AG, the biggest company in the Austrian Aluminium industry, reportedly achieved record levels of revenue and earnings in the first half of 2022. As per the report published by the company, it has seen a growth of around 50 per cent in revenue from EUR 595.1 million in H1 2021 to EUR 904.3 million in H1 2022.

On Wednesday, July 27, Lotte Chemical announced its intention to construct an anode facility in Kentucky by 2025 under the joint venture between the former and Lotte Aluminium. A crucial component of electric vehicle (EV) batteries is anode foil. Lotte Chemical and Lotte Aluminium will each spend 330 billion won ($252 million) for the facility, with Lotte Chemical owning a 70 per cent stake and Lotte Aluminium holding the remaining 20 per cent.
