Ball Corporation introduces lightweight aerosol cans with lesser carbon footprint

Ball Corporation was founded in 1880 originally, by five brothers and now has grown to become the largest producer of aluminium beverage cans in the world. It has been reported that Ball Corporation has introduced a new aluminium aerosol can featuring almost half the carbon footprint compared to a regular standardised version.

These latest introductions will be composed of 50 per cent recycled material, along with low carbon aluminium that has been produced in smelters using renewable-green energy resources like hydroelectric power.

Moreover, the use of Ball’s ReAl alloy for impact-extruded cans substantially reduces the weight of a pack with the new can weighing 30 per cent lighter than standard aluminium cans.

The Senior Director of Sustainability at Ball Aerosol Packaging, Jason Galley commented:  “With the impacts of climate change becoming more visible, we see a growing focus on efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of packaging. People want a more sustainable future for the planet, and they seek out brands that are leading the way. Research shows that 83% of global consumers believe it’s important or extremely important for companies to design products that can be reused or recycled.”

Ball Corporation has unveiled the first batch of ASI-certified beverage cans in America, marking itself as a certified member of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative. Currently, the company emphasises more on the parameters of sustainability and a long-term growth expansion pattern to compete with the emerging demand for aluminium beverage cans around the world. Most brands who wish to achieve net-zero are walking towards 100 per cent sustainable options like Ball Corporation offers its customers. Aluminium is an infinitely recyclable material thus, utilising it creates better relativity between the company and the planet.
