CNH Industrial takes over Speciality Enterprises, North America’s leading aluminium spray boom maker

Specialty Enterprises, North America's leading maker of aluminium spray booms for agricultural purposes, has been bought by CNH Industrial. According to Specialty, aluminium spray booms may be up to 50 per cent lighter than steel versions, weighing between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds less. This leads to improved weight distribution, which means less compaction and rutting on the field.

Specialty has been a supplier to Case IH since 2020 and has one production plant in Wautoma, Wisconsin. According to CNH Industrial, this purchase of spray boom manufacturing is part of Case IH's long-term plan for its sprayer product selection.

“We are thrilled to be working so closely with Specialty, which has been a fantastic partner to Case IH over the last few years as we deliver more productive application solutions. This acquisition strengthens our in-house capabilities and allows us to retain key strategic personnel to ensure continuity in this vertical integration,” says Scott Harris, global president for Case IH.

To prevent fatigue cracking associated with aluminium boom designs, the company's sprayer boom design uses many patents, including its Millennium series of "ultra-durable" aluminium. Aluminium metal is also more elastic than steel, allowing it to flex without breaking.

“At Case IH, one of our primary crop production goals is to help operators cover more acres more efficiently — with solutions that are built to last. This acquisition will be key to providing operators with the equipment and agronomic solutions they need to feed a growing world,” says Monte Weller, Case IH global product manager for Crop Production and Hay & Forage product lines.

European Aluminium Industry: Focus 2022

Since 1987, Specialty has grown from a welding and fabrication workshop to a manufacturing corporation that serves agriculture, aerospace, defence, and commercial construction. In 2010, Specialty set out to become North America's leading manufacturer of aluminium sprayer booms. Specialty uses aluminium that is supplied and extruded in the United States.
