US aluminium scrap exports in 2021 advance by 13.5% YoY with increasing growth rate in each quarter

The United States aluminium scrap exports in full-year 2021 have recorded a significant rise of 250,000 tonnes or 13.51 per cent, owing to the increased awareness of using recycled aluminium to reduce carbon footprint across the industry. In comparison with 1.85 million tonnes of export in 2020, the country’s aluminium scrap exports in 2021 stood at 2.10 million tonnes, showed the USGS data.

As the chart above indicates, the year-on-year hike in the United States aluminium scrap exports in 2021 has followed consecutive growth in each quarter of the year.

In the fourth quarter of 2021, the United States exported 586,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap, which was an increase of 57,000 tonnes or 10.78 per cent from 529,000 tonnes in Q3 2021. That followed the rise in exports in Q3 by 30,000 tonnes or 6.01 per cent from 499,000 tonnes in the previous quarter. The exports in Q2 grew by 16,000 tonnes or 3.31 per cent from 483,000 tonnes in Q1.

Therefore, by the above data, it can be concluded that the growth rate of the United States aluminium scrap exports also increased every quarter of the year.

In the last month of 2021, the United States exported 179,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap, which, however, reflected a downfall of 13.94 per cent month-on-month. In November, on the other hand, the export volume climbed up by 4.52 per cent from 199,000 tonnes in October to 208,000 tonnes.
