South Korea’s import of aluminium stranded wire during 2019-21 exemplifies a varying movement

Stranded aluminium wiring is considered safe, while it has been performing as intended for decades. The wires need a special joint compound that is electrically conductive and prevents rust. However, the stranded aluminium wire does offer better control of skin effect than stranded copper due to its greater skin depth and natural strand insulation through an oxide layer.

The East Asian nation, South Korea imported 6923 tonnes of aluminium stranded wire during 2019-20, incurring revenue expenditure of $31.70 million for the import.

In 2019, South Korea imported 4406 tonnes of aluminium stranded wire, which accounted expenditure of $11.19 million, whereas, in 2020, the import exemplified a drastic downfall by 42.87%, as the import volume plunged to 2517 tonnes, while the expenditure escalated to $20.51 million.

The high-technology, industrialized $2 trillion economy country, South Korea’s import of aluminium stranded wire is evaluated with growth by 67.97%, as the import volume is estimated to reach 4228 tonnes and the expenditure to stand at $44.39 million.

Outlook for the Indian Aluminium Industry

The major trading destinations for South Korea’s importation of aluminium stranded wires are Bahrain, China, France, Germany, Netherlands, etc.
