Alumina production in West Europe declines 2% Q-o-Q to 1.380MT in 2Q2021; Output in East & Central Europe grows 3% to 1.199MT

During June 2021, alumina production in West Europe increased by 6,000 tonnes or 1. 28 per cent month-on-month to come in at 473,000 tonnes, found the International Aluminium Institute. In May, the output was at 467,000 tonnes, gaining 27,000 tonnes from the previous month.

However, on a year-on-year calculation, alumina production in West Europe in June 2021 edged 1.05 per cent lower than 478,000 tonnes.  

During the second quarter of 2021, alumina production in West Europe totalled 1.380 million tonnes, down by 2.06 per cent from 1.409 million tonnes in Q1 2021 and 2.89 per cent from 1.421 million tonnes in Q2 2020.

In East & Central Europe, alumina production during June 2021 stood at 375,000 tonnes – 11.76 per cent less month-on-month than 425,000 tonnes. The output in May was, however, higher by 6.52 per cent from 399,000 tonnes in April.

On the other hand, on a year-on-year basis, alumina production in East & Central Europe in June 2021 stood 4.75 per cent higher than 358,000 tonnes.

During the second quarter of 2021, total alumina output in East & Central Europe amounted to 1.199 million tonnes, up 2.74 per cent from 1.167 million tonnes during Q1 2021 and 7.82 per cent from 1.112 million tonnes during Q2 2020.

In West Europe, alumina production during the entire first half of the year stood at 2.789 million tonnes, while that in East & Central Europe totalled 2.366 million tonnes.
