Ghana Gas plans for distribution plant at Adupri in Ashanti region, an advantage for Nyinahini bauxite mining
The management of the Ghana Gas Company has engaged in a series of stakeholder consultative meetings on a proposal to cite a distribution plant at Adupri, a community in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti region.
It has come as the government’s primary intention to mine the Bauxite deposits on the Nyinahini land.
The Dawusaro-Kumasi Gas Pipeline Project, which can supply Liquefied Petroleum Gas and will be used as the main firepower in the mining and processing of the Bauxite instead of electricity which is highly expensive.
Augustina Osei Asare Osei Asare, Senior Manager of the Public Relations Unit, is leading a team of experts and officials of the company to the district to ascertain among other things where the pipes will be laid; which communities will be affected and the compensation packages that will be suitable for affected farmers in addition to the engineering layouts before the project starts.
The team admits that the scope of work comprises passing the pipes through eight (8) Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), 46 Communities and 12 paramouncies.
“The company will require 35 meters buffer right of way – where no activity takes place to enable smooth passage of the pipes and to maximize security. The infrastructure will supply liquefied petroleum gas to the Ameri Power Plant at Fumesua in the Region”, Augustina said.
She said: “The siting of the multi-million infrastructure is a critical catalyst for the industrialization agenda of Government especially in the mine catchment communities.”
Williams Darko, District Chief Executive, received the team, praised the initiative and said: “It will be the bedrock of Bauxite mining in Nyinahini.”
“All eyes are on Nyinahini. The Bauxite which is going to feed the Ghanaian economy for decades will see the light of day and because it will be refined here in Nyinahin, the siting of the Gas distribution Centre is in the right direction to feed into the processing chain”. Darko added.
The meeting was attended by Security Chiefs, Heads of Departments, Traditional leaders and opinion leaders.
