Africa’s primary aluminium production in Q3 2020 drops by nearly 1% Q-o-Q, output in September down by 3% M-o-M
In September 2020, primary aluminium production in Africa stood at 131,000 tonnes, found the International Aluminium Institute’s latest data. In the month earlier (August), Africa’s primary aluminium output was 135,000 tonnes, meaning the country’s production in September declined by 4,000 tonnes or 2.96 per cent month-on-month. On a year-on-year, the production decreased by 3,000 tonnes or 2.2 per cent from 134,000 tonnes.
Africa’s primary aluminium production in August 2020 had risen month-on-month by 2,000 tonnes or 1.50 per cent from 133,000 tonnes in July. But on a yearly basis, the production stood down by 4,000 tonnes or 2.88 per cent from 139,000 tonnes.
Africa’s primary aluminium production in the third quarter of the year amounted to 399,000 tonnes, down by 0.75 per cent from 402,000 tonnes in the second quarter. On a year-on-year calculation, production was down by 11,000 tonnes or 2.68 per cent from 410,000 tonnes.
Total primary aluminium production in Africa during the first nine months of 2020 stood at 1.20 million tonnes, 2.44 per cent lesser than 1.23 million tonnes during the same period last year.
