The United States aluminium scrap imports in May 2020 stood at 423,000 tonnes, registering a downfall of 5.16 per cent from 446,000 tonnes in April, found the latest date of the US Geological Survey. The imports in April were significantly up by 59.29 per cent from 280,000 tonnes in March.
In February, the United States aluminium scrap imports were 238,000 tonnes, up month-on-month by 63 per cent from 146,000 tonnes. The imports in March, on the other hand, were 17.65 per cent higher than in February. This shows that the aluminium scrap imports by the United States grew month-on-month until recorded a downfall in May.
When compared to the same period last year, the US aluminium scrap imports in May 2020 were down by 11.51 per cent from 478,000 tonnes.
In total five months of the year, the US aluminium scrap imports amounted to 2.19 million tonnes, 9.88 per cent lesser than 2.43 million tonnes during the same period last year.
In May 2020, Canada was the biggest exporter of aluminium scrap to the US, with 259,000 tonnes, higher by 5.71 per cent from 245,000 tonnes month-on-month and 53.25 per cent from 169,000 tonnes year-on-year.
Canada’s total exports to the US during January-May amounted to 1.25 million tonnes, up by 35.57 per cent from 922,000 tonnes.
