Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has acknowledged ALVANCE Aluminium Dunkerque with its Performance Standard certification for smelting and casthouse operation. The plant produces aluminium by electrolysis of alumina in the form of rolling slabs and ingots.
The news came after ASI announced that it successfully certified the plant for responsible production, sourcing, and stewardship of aluminium. It is the large primary aluminium smelter in Europe. The ingots and slabs that it produces are destined for use in a range of value-added applications in the transport, automotive, packaging, building, and construction industry. The smelter produces over 284,000 tonnes of aluminium per year and employs almost 600 staff.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “We warmly congratulate ALVANCE Aluminium Dunkerque on its ASI Performance Standard certification. By certifying these operations, the company is demonstrating that they are not only an important industry player in terms of production volume, but also in terms of their commitment to sustainable production of aluminium. We will follow with great interest the progress on their goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.”
Amélie Hennion, Managing Director of ALVANCE Aluminium Dunkerque, said: “We are very proud of this milestone towards our objective to be a leading sustainable and carbon-neutral aluminium company. ALVANCE Aluminium Dunkerque is committed to operating and serving its customers in a sustainable manner. While we have always been at the forefront of such requirements, the ASI certification is a great recognition of the work everyone at our plant is doing to establish our sustainability credentials.”
The independent, third-party audit of the ALVANCE Aluminium Dunkerque facility was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification.
