The most important known bauxite deposits in Greece are estimated at around 100 million tonnes and are located in the Mt Helikon – Mt Parnassus – Mt Giona zone. Greek bauxites are of a diasporic type and are composed of 1 molecule of crystalline water per 1 molecule of alumina (aluminium oxide).
Bauxite export in Greece exhibited unstable moment during 2017-19, as the export volume recorded was 11,72,194 tonnes and the revenue generation stood at $50.02 million. The projected export for 2020 has been analysed at 272,526 tonnes and earning to remain at $17.07 million. However, when the evaluated export volume and income of 2020 get assorted with the preceding three years it stands at 14,44,720 tonnes and $67.09 million respectively.
The bauxite export of Greece in 2017 has been recorded at 326,038 tonnes and the revenue earnings remained at $12.01 million, whereas in 2018, the export volume geared up by 56.79%, as the export volume climbed at 511,223 tonnes and revenue earnings also surged to $20.45 million, growth by 70.27%.
In 2019, the bauxite exportation saw downfall by 34.48%, as the export volume stood at 334,933 and the earning also dropped to $17.56 million.
The bauxite export for 2020 has been projected with a dip by 18.63%, as the export volume is expected to reach 272,526 tonnes and the earnings might fall at $17.07 million.
The major destinations for Greece exportation of Bauxite are Croatia, Cyprus, France, Romania, Germany, Sweden, Ukraine, etc.
