On 12th March’20, Vedanta Ltd made public that Lanjigarh Alumina refinery is expecting to upswing its production to 1.8 million tonnes in 2019-20. This is followed after significant development in operating efficiencies.
The Lanjigarh refinery in Odisha stood with 1.5 million tonnes of production in the previous financial year.
The company said in a statement: "The Lanjigarh alumina refinery is set for a record performance in 2019-20 with total production expected to increase to 1.8 million tonnes from 1.5 million tonnes in the previous fiscal.”
The enhancement in the operational frameworks has driven by a 26% downturn in caustic soda consumption and a 19% decline in conversion cost.
Lanjigarh alumina now stands globally among the top 5 alumina refineries in terms of total energy consumption.
A company official stated: “There has been reduced carbon intensity to 30% below the global average of $1,500 per tonne. Lanjigarh is on track to deliver aluminium cost of production exit rate in Q4 2020.”
The unit has accomplished a 9% deduction in bauxite cost per tonne through local bauxite sourcing.
